Time for the North Central Region to have a Fly-In! I am sponsoring a BAC Fly-In to the Front Range Airport (FTG) in Watkins, CO in conjunction with the Colorado Pilots Association’s Rocky Mountain Light Sport Aircraft Expo (http://www.rmlsaexpo.org/index.html) May 18-19. There will be a pancake breakfast on the 18[SUP]th[/SUP] from 8AM to 11AM for early arrivals and we can do a late lunch both days at the Aviator Grill on the Airport. A schedule of events for the Expo is posted on the website listed above. If anyone is planning on RONing let me know as I am still checking on accommodations. Thanks Dave for hosting this. I am glad to hear there is interest from other regions. It's spring and time to get all those baby beeches in the air. Let's make this a great fly-in!
 
Dave, sounds like a great idea. That weekend is our 35th wedding anniversary and our kids have told us that we cannot leave the state. I would enjoy looking at you super, maybe next time. - Denis.

This is a reminder about the fly-in at Front Range Airport near Denver in conjunction with teh Rocky Mountain Sport Aircraft Expo May 18th & 19th. So far it looks like four have indicated they are going. We would love to have all of you come so put that on your calendar and let us know. Dave Stevens is hosting this ahd has arranged a minivan for transportation as well as reasonably priced hotel rooms. He will soon be posting more information.
 
This should be a great Fly-In. In addition to being able to see some of the latest Light Sport Aircraft at the Expo we have been able to arrange some additional benefits and activities for BAC members. Here is what we have so far: For those that plan on remaining overnight on Saturday we have a discounted rate at Springhill Suites. To get the discounted rate please use this link for making for making your Hotel reservations: http://cwp.marriott.com/denda/frontrange/. The Colorado Pilots Association is sponsoring a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, May 18[SUP]th[/SUP] from 8AM to 11AM, which is free for pilots flying in. The FBO will provide fuel service from their fuel truck at the same price as available from the self-service facility on the airport which is currently $5.39/gal. There is an on-field restaurant as well as several food venders at the Expo for lunch and we are planning on a BAC dinner at a restaurant near the Hotel on Saturday evening. We have arranged for a tour of the FTG tower, which was recently built and is the tallest General Aviation Airport Tower in the US. If there is sufficient interest we might also take a side trip to the Wings Over The Rockies Air and Space Museum (http://www.wingsmuseum.org/) in Denver. As Mike mentioned, I have rented a mini-van for local transportation for our group. If you are planning on coming to the Fly-In please respond on this thread or send me a PM. I have asked the Expo managers to try to park our aircraft together so I would like to give them some idea of how many aircraft to expect.

The Weather is looking good for this weekend. Spring has finally come to Colorado. I would like to get a head count on the number of folks planning on staying overnight on Saturday. If it is 5 or less I might switch from reserving a mini-van to just a full-size car.

Sorry to disappoint but we are probably not going to be able to make it. I thought we were gonna be able to get away Friday morning but that is out now. Flying over Saturday morning and back Sunday morning with the possibility of thunderstorms shaping up is not gonna work for us. Have fun and take lots of photos!
 
Chris, I understand. I was looking forward to meeting you but living out here near the mountains you always have to be wary of the Thunder Storms. We will meet up one of these days.
 
Just a few comments about flying in to FTG – Front Range Airport. The airport elevation is 5512’and it is located about 5 miles southeast of Denver International Airport. FTG has a cutout in DIA's 10 nm Class B airspace. The cutout provides VFR traffic with a means of departing FTG to the East and South without entering Class B restriction. If you approach FTG from the East or South VFR be aware that Class B airspace starts at 7000’ within the cutout. Local procedure is to be between 6900 and 6500 and call the FTG tower at 10 miles out. If you depart FTG westbound VFR or if you have to do a go-around on runway 26 you MUST turn south BEFORE crossing the road just west of runway 26. DIA’s10 nm Class B airspace boundary runs along that road.

Chris, Stay safe! It would have been great to have you there. They are now boosting the chance of storms in Nebraska for the entire weekend. Typically, these are afternoon and evening TRW's. However, I will watch and wait as we get closer to the weekend to see if it will be wise for me to go. Right now I think I can.
 
I went over to the hanger yesterday to clean the airplane and discovered I have a crack in my spinner. The spinner has been removed and sent out for repair but my A&P recommends against flying the airplane until the spinner is back on. So as it stand now there are only 2 other Baby Beech pilots that have indicated they are coming to this fly-in and Mike Nielsen may have weather issues coming in from Nebraska. Mike and I talked last night and we have decided to cancel this as a designated BAC Fly-In. I still plan on going to the Light Sport Expo on Saturday but will probably drive. So if anyone still wants to fly to this event, please do so but we don't believe there is going to be enough participation to make this a viable BAC event. I have lots of ideas for other Fly-Ins here in Colorado so we will try again soon.
 
In spite of this fly-in being cancelled, Dave Stevens drove to KFTG and Mike Ferguson and Mike Nielsen with wife Linda flew there. We had a very nice lunch together and enjoyed the displays and just hanging out. We attended a very interesting seminar on ramp checks presented by an attorney. His presentation centered on FAA inspectors, but he spent a good deal of time talking about ramp checks by homeland security. Neither he nor AOPA's lead counsels know what the rules are for homeland security when they do their inspections. We enjoyed the rest of the afternoon and Dave & Steve departed about 4 p.m. Linda and I stayed and went to watch the Colorado Rockies beat the San Francisco Giants 10-2 that evening. Picture 2 is actual Mike Ferguson departing in his Super III. It was great meeting Mike, Mike, and Linda. Hopefully we can do a fly-in with a little more participation once I get my spinner back from the repair shop.
 
A good day, great to meet you guys and Linda. Good tips as well, I am going to try out the new air filter at next annual in august. Looking forward to our next get together.
