2013 Arlington Air Show

It is definitely that time of year up here in the PacNW to get flying. I saw the sun yesterday and even a few birds were up in the sky!

The Arlington Airshow is coming up July 11-13th and I want to see who is interested in participating either by flying in and/or volunteering at the BAC booth? This year's show has been shortened, but the promise is that it will be just as sweet as years past. This year there is even going to be a night pyro technics airshow!

Here is a link to the schedule of events:

http://www.arlingtonflyin.org/events/daily-schedules/

So who's coming? Who can volunteer time to work at the BAC booth?

Weather and time permitting I think it would be nice to have a mini-fly-in to somewhere in the San Juan Islands, maybe for a lunch.

Please let me know soon and thanks for your support!

Jon I'm heading for Arkansas in late June. If things work out I will attend. I just can't give a commitment yet.

Jon,
I've got some surgery coming up in a few weeks, so I don't know yet if I'll be up to flying in mid July. If my recovery goes well I should okay but I'll have wait and see.

All,

I am getting pinged by the Arlington Airshow organizer about tents and other various items necessary to put a booth together. I am going to call her and let her know we are not going to have a booth this year since, based on number reply's, we are busy (I mean this in no condescending way, I wouldn't be able to make it there until Friday -- work...).

I will still be at the fly-in and hope to meet as many of you as possible! We will continue to use this thread as communication link. You can PM me as well.

Thanks,

Jon

Jon-
I think that is the right call. We did a booth the first year and had a pretty good turn-out but the booth didn't (and doesn't) really attract a lot of serious attention. It is sort of like listening to everybody's VW Beetle story....I used to fly a Musketeer, I had a Sundowner years back, etc. etc. I really didn't think we got any bang for our buck but the party for the vendor after closing was pretty good! LOL!

Wish I could make it this year but I will be in Atlanta at a family shindig! Have fun and take lots of photos!

Good call. Jon, you made the right decision, and Chris said it like it is. With that said, I did buy my Sundowner, but not solely based on the BAC interaction at the Fly-In. But Marty is a good salesman. I will be there, my plane might stay in the hangar and it is also annual month.

The Arlington Airshow will not have a BAC Fly-in or Booth, but that doesn't mean we can't meet up if we have plans of stopping in! Who is planning on being there and when? My dad and I will be there sometime around 12pm on Friday 7/12, and leave sometime before the airshow on Saturday, weather permitting we plan a hop over to the San Juan islands to get lunch. Any recommendations on lunch in the San Juans?

The best place is Roche Harbor. Fine food and great scenery overlooking the yacht harbor. Watch for the hill in the East 1/3 of the runway. You sometimes will get airborne again if you are not on speed.

Jon,
There's plenty of choices in Friday Harbor on San Juan Is. and a few in Eastsound or Orcas Is. We don't go to McMillins in Roche Harbor anymore because the old cheif retitred and the new guy (about 2 years) is mediocre. And there's the $10 landing fee at Roche Harbor airport. No where else in NW Washington has a landing fee for GA planes.

Robin and I plan to be at Arlington on Thursday, but probably not Friday. Robin's got to work Friday and Saturday.

Let me know if you decide to do lunch in the islands and I'll try to meet you.

Not anymore. The food is now extremely high priced Denny's quailty. As in instant mashed potatoes for example.

The view is still nice though.

Thanks for the heads up Jack on the Orcas. We are going to be up there this Friday, we have a room at the quality inn. We plan on flying out Saturday late morning, hopefully be good weather to get over to the Orcas. If anyone want to meet up in the Orcas, let me know. Jack it would nice to meet up with you, name a place.

Thanks!
Jon

Jon,
Give me a call prior to TO from Arlington on Saturday and I'll meet you at the Orcas Airport. 360-376-3693. Then I can play tour guide.

Hey guys.... sorry for being absent on this! Dawn and I will certainly be at Arlington, hopefully park our plane in about the same place as previous years. I may be flying the plane down tonight. We will only be there half the day on Saturday, family obligations......

My dad and I are going to try and make it before tomorrow's (Friday's) airshow, close to noon, weather permitting. I will certainly be looking for anyone from BAC at the airshow. PM me or call 727-804-5041 if you're in the area.

We tried getting our Sierra to be judged and disappointingly they said it's too new.
