I just noticed in another thread that there is some interest in a fly in to the Winwood resort in Davis WV. Sounds like a great Idea! How about we discuss it here? Weekend? Lunch?

See if that works for others. I have a backpacking weekend planned already for next weekend. But if you want that weekend we can get it on the calendar. Yes there is a way to email the region. But I don't remember how. Someone will help us if we ask.

Windward is a nice little place. Great food and service!! Joe does a terrific job and he caters to the pilot folk. We have a pilots of America fly in there every year.

This is great - can't recall a BAC overnighter in this little corner of the country before... Well - since it's getting colder daily - just throw'n it out there - how about NOV 02 and NOV 03 - too soon ??? If a day looks good on either side of the weekend - I might extend a day so Jackie and I could take a look around the area...

I like Tom's idea about checking in the Thursday before - to confirm weather... Would it be too late to make reservations at that point - or - should we reserve earlier and just hope for the best ? Are they crowded this time of year ? What about ground transportation - can/should we get a rent-a-car at Winwood ? If the weather cooperates - I'll probably shoot for launching at or before dawn with 2.5 or so of actual flight... Best place to fuel up in the area ?

Hmm - I'd better go download a copy of JD - - - hmm - - - umm - - - then again - - - maybe not... County roads - take me home to the place where I belong - West Virginia - Mountain Mama - Take Me Home - County Roads... Good thing this is a forum and nobody can actually hear me sing...

Sounds like you have it all set Scott. A quick phone call will get you the availability info you need. Whenever I have called they seemed to understand GA limitations. Fuel is 5.65/ gal I believe at Luray caverns airport nearby. KLUA, old W45. That might be on your way. I will take a look at the weekend schedule. Let me lnow when decided and I can post on BAC calendar.

Scott, CBE (Cumberland, MD) looks to be right on your way. Mexico Farms is a public use grass strip only about 1 mile from CBE. I went in there a few weeks ago. If interested in some grass strip fun, I would go there before fueling up so as to be lighter then scoot over to CBE for fuel. I don't think they have rental cars at Windwood. The lodge and restaurant are adjacent but don't expect a 4 star hotel. I stayed there on a ski trip one time and the rooms are fine but it's more of a no frills ski lodge. Usually there's no problem getting a room other than ski season but with the leaves, it is possible that it's a problem but I doubt it. You may have to go to Grant Co or Elkins for a car. There are lots of outdoor activities. Blackrock Falls State Park is a few miles north and a beautiful waterfall that is almost roadside. Be sure to eat at and take in the music at the Purple Fiddle in Davis, WV. Canaan Valley State Park is a few miles south and offers a nice lodge at very reasonable rates. I'm good for either day.

I think Nov 3rd for the flyin and Scott will come in on the 2nd. Anybody else that wants to overnight certainly could do the same.

If you guys do this and don't mind I might try to drop in for a bit. I'm an owner that is currently 'in between' aircraft and have the C24R on the short list. I'd love to get up close to a family representative and may even let someone try to sell me on having a one as my next bird.

No one needs to sell the C24R. It sells it's self! What more can you ask for in a 4 place retract? Big cabin, three doors, good economy, good range, great visibility, nice panel, excellent handling, decent load and not as slow as most people think. The overall economics are better than just about any other 200 hp retract out there. None of my Mooney friends will pass up flying my Sierra. It isn't as fast as a Mooney, but it isn't as slow as an Arrow or Commander 112. My Sierra is right up there at cruise with the Cardinal RG (your speed may vary). But even with the average 130-135 knot cruise speed, the Sierra beats most in the terms of overall comfort and flying experience. I recently spent over 5 hours in my Sierra with a 19,000 hr ex-airline pilot and Mooney owner. He was all smiles flying my Sierra. He was also surprised at the speed and economy.

The question should not be; "Should buy a C24R?", it should be, "WHEN should I buy a C24R?".

Sorry guys - I screwed up the dates... My intention - is to arrive 03NOV12 Saturday morning and get a room for Saturday night... If The weather looks good and I can squeeze something else in on my own - I will... If other dates work better - I'm certainly flexible as I just picked the date so we could start discussing schedules...

Got your message - I got home pretty late - I'll try your number a little later this AM when I get some time... Lancaster sounds fine for this weekend if we get the weather - forecast isn't looking so hot... I didn't get much flying in this year so I'm anxious to get some hours before the snow...
